Old Testament references in the New Testament
It's been said that the Old Testaments of the Bible is a historical reference only and does not hold any significance to the Christian faith.
The Old Testament is indeed a history book from the creation of man up to the birth of Jesus Christ. However, the Old Testament is much more than just a history book. It confirms through prophesy that the Bible is the inspired work of God.
There is no way to explain away the hundreds of fulfilled prophesies with 100% accuracy. The 66 books of the Bible were written over a span of about 1600 years by at least 40 distinct authors. Most of who did not know one another.
The New Testament relies on, and makes reference to the Old Testament literally hundreds of times. Jesus referenced the scriptures during His ministry many times, some which are listed here.
This is not by any stretch every reference that is mentioned in both the Old and New Testament.
