Romans 1:20 - 1:32
Romans chapter 1 tells us what we can expect from the ungodly. We can also use this to compare our own walk with Christ. Do we in fact measure up to the Word of God.
Here in these few versus we can get a picture of how Satan can take a person to the far reaches outside of Gods will for our life. It also assures us that God will always allow us to choose to serve Him or not. God never forces us to follow His teaching.
|
Romans 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the
world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that
are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they
are without excuse:
|
The invisible
things spoken of here pertain to God's unseen world. Things
like the wind, non visible light, gravity and radio waves are
a small sample of God's creation. Everyone knows that God
exists simply by going outside and looking at the heavens
which declare the glory of God. Those who choose
not to believe still know deep down inside themselves that
a Mighty God does without a doubt exist. The Bible tells this in 2 Peter 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: This tells us that the non-believers are willing ignorant of the fact that God does indeed exist. However it makes them feel safe and have a false sense of security if they can try to justify their theories by explaining away Gods glory. This is done by the means of evolution and that we are evolving into gods ourselves.

Romans 1:21
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as
God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their
imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
|
Continuing from
Romans 1:20
that all men know of God, but
then turned their backs on his teaching. This is very evident
in how man can explain away the creation of God with wrong
science.
Moral standards which were once compared with God's Holy Word are now the standards of man and not from God. This make every individual their own God with no clear cut standard of right from wrong. If I were to say that it's wrong to steal, that is just my opinion. However, if I were to say that God say's that it's wrong to steal we now have a concrete commandment given from God and not from me. Their imaginations: Thoughts or reasoning's. When men turn willfully from truth, they will run to the extremes of error. The world (the pagan world) yielded to idle fancies, and were involved in deeper darkness. He who shuts out the light will finally be unable to bear it.
Once we turn from God we enter into spiritual darkness. When
we are in spiritual darkness we are unaware of our
predicament or dilemma. Only the Holy Spirit can lead us back
to the light and the truth. |

Romans 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
|
In today's world
more then ever before we consider our selves to be wise. We
currently live in the information age, the age of enlightenment. We meaning,
man is evolving into our own god. We don't need a mighty God
when we are god's in our self. However, in our quest for
knowledge we are forsaking the Creator which is Jesus Christ
the one true God.

Romans 1:23 And
changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made
like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts,
and creeping things.
|
Here, changed
does not mean that the glory of God was changed, but the fact
that man changed from glorifying God to giving glory to
idols. God is all powerful and is uncorruptible which is
opposite of man which is born into this life as corruptible,
as well as the birds, oxen, cattle and any other
fourfooted animals in addition to insects and other creeping
crawling bugs. God is in fact superior in all ways, He can not be tempted nor does he tempt us. However, he does allow Satan to tempt us. Satan cannot tempt us unless he gets permission or the go-ahead from God.

Romans 1:24
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the
lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies
between themselves:
|
This does
not mean that God left them but rather he ceased to restrain
them from their evil ways. He is still with them but choose
not to use the Holy Spirit to convict them of their actions.
God will never leave us but waits patiently for us to seek him. In the goods times we have a tendency to distance ourselves from the face of God. But in times of need we find ourselves running back to God. If anyone mentioned here would turn from their uncleanness God would forgive and forget. Without the restraining power of God we find that man will run rampant in rank sin. One of Satan's main tool is lust. Here we find that man will stoop to new lows by dishonour their own bodies with others of their own kind. God forbids same sex sexual relationships as laid out in Romans 1:27

Romans 1:25 Who
changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and
served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for
ever. Amen.

Romans 1:26 For
this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even
their women did change the natural use into that which is
against nature:
|
If we resist God
long enough, He will withdraw his still
small voice ( The Holy Spirit) from our consciousness as mentioned in
1Kings 19:12.
When this happens we find that man will go to the furthers reaches to distance herself /himself from God. Here we read that one of the most vile things that mankind can do is for a women to leave the natural use of their bodies and to perform lesbian acts against their own bodies and against God. We find that in today's world this is a common practice, Let's get this straight it is NOT ok to be gay. According to the word of God, any woman who commits these acts has rejected the word of God to a point that God has given them up because to their vile affections. This is a very dangerous predicament or dilemma to be in. If you find yourself in this rank sin you need to repent of your evil ways before God; and to turn you heart back to God and his Holy Word.

|
Romans 1:27 And
likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,
burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working
that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that
recompence of their error which was meet.
|
Here we find
that the same thing applies to the man as well. If a man does
not use the natural use of the woman, but instead will turn
from the woman and use another man, then he is in danger of hell fire. Again if you
find yourself in this rank sin, you need to repent of your
evil ways before God, and to turn you heart back to God and
his Holy Word. To God this is considered to be unseemly. Recompence: An appropriate reward and that which they deserved.

Romans 1:28 And
even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,
God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things
which are not convenient;
|
Here again God
is stating that if you do not wish to retain the things of
God, God will not force you to comply with his word.
We find examples of this very thing happening all over the United States. We are no longer allow to have public documents that pertain to God or any of his laws. God is not allow in public. God is not allowed in our schools. God is not allowed at Christmas plays. God is not allowed in College. If we continue to discredit and disregard God and to cast aside his teaching, then he will remove himself from us. This can be seen in all of the recent school shootings as well as the 911 attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

Romans 1:29 Being
filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness,
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate,
deceit, malignity; whisperers,
|
Instead of being
filled with the love of God, they were possessed by Satan who
filled their minds with the weight of rank sin.
When controlled by Satan, he will push a person to perform things which are the exact opposite of God's will. Some of Satan's tools are: unrighteousness: The opposite of God who is righteousness. Unrighteousness and ungodly go hand in glove. fornication: We find this running rampant today. The label of sin has been removed from these evil acts, but only by man not by God. wickedness: That which intends not so much the internal wickedness of the heart, as that particular vice, by which a man is inclined He studies to do hurt to others as Satan does. covetousness: Reprehensible acquisitiveness; insatiable desire for wealth (personified as one of the deadly sins). Extreme greed for material wealth, an envious eagerness to possess something. maliciousness: Feeling a need to see others suffer and enjoy it. full of envy: Jealous of someones else's position, or personal belongings. murder: killing of a human being, to take one's life unjustifiably. debate: Strife about words more than things, and more for vain glory, and a desire of victory, than for truth. deceit: Through their empty notions of philosophy; hence "philosophy and vain deceit" go together, Colossians 2:8; making large pretences to morality, when they were the vilest of creatures. malignity: Moroseness; having no courteousness nor affability in them, guilty of very ill manners; not filled by God, but by Satan and themselves; and it denotes the abounding of wickedness in them, and which was insatiable or greedy. whisperers: Secret slanderers.

Romans 1:30
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters,
inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
|
Backbiters:
Who more publicly defamed the
characters of their neighbor's, and hurt their good name,
credit and reputation, though behind their backs. haters of God: "Hateful to God," in the Revision. Hateful, because so polluted with sin. despiteful: Showing malicious ill will and a desire to hurt; motivated by spite; "a despiteful fiend"; "a truly spiteful child"; "a vindictive man will look for occasions for resentment. proud: Feeling self-respect or pleasure in something by which you measure's your self-worth; or being a reason for pride; "proud parents"; "proud of his accomplishments". Taking all of the glory instead of glorifying God. boasters: Speaking of yourself in superlatives or as to being superior to others; to show off.
inventors of evil things:
Of evil schemes of morality and
philosophy, and of evil practices, as well as principles. disobedient to parents: Not obeying or complying with commands of those in authority; unwilling to submit to authority.

things divine and even moral, being given up to a reprobate
mind. covenantbreakers: Had no regard to private or public contracts.
without natural
affection: To their
parents, children, relations and friends:

Romans 1:32 Who
knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such
things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have
pleasure in them that do them.
|
Man knows
the judgment of God, it make this clear in
2 Peter 3:5 For this they
willingly are ignorant... This makes it clear that the
ungodly choose to not to believe. A better way of putting it
would be that they know there is a God, but try to deny his
existence to no avail. If you find yourself mentioned here, you need to repent and ask God to help you turn from your evil ways. |
